Rex A. Sinquefield was one of the first money managers to successfully apply the findings of academic finance to money management, pioneering many of the first index funds at American National Bank of Chicago in the early 1970s. He is best known for his influential article—co-authored with Roger G. Ibbotson—“Stocks, Bonds, Bills and Inflation,” which led to a seminal database in the industry for historical prices. The authors received a Graham and Dodd Award of Excellence for this article, which appeared in the Financial Analysts Journal in 1979. The publication’s editorial board, which he joined in 2003, awarded Rex the Graham and Dodd Award in 1996 for “Where Are the Gains from International Diversification?”

Rex Sinquefield is the co-founder and past co-chairman of Dimensional Fund Advisors Inc., a registered investment advisor with over $100 billion under management.

Rex received an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1972 and a B.S. from St. Louis University, where he is a member of the board of trustees. Rex is a director of St. Vincent Orphan’s Home in St. Louis, Missouri, and a member of the investment committee of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. In addition, Rex sits on the boards of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Art Museum, and the Missouri Botanical Garden. He is a life trustee of DePaul University and a member of its investment committee.
